School Year Child Care Programming - Registration for 2026-27 opens August 1st *Please note tuition increase* Laker Legends Before School Program (BSP) and After School Program (ASP) are designed to provide a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment where children can be cared for before and after school and on non-school days throughout the school year. Programs are available for children enrolled in all-day preschool through 6th grade who attend Minnewaska Area Schools. Attendance options include full-time, part-time, or drop-in care; however, all children must be registered online prior to attending. Parents/guardians are responsible for making schedule changes through the registration system. Laker Legends also offers Non-School Day Child Care during select school-year non-school days. Programming includes games, crafts, enrichment activities, gym time, outdoor play, and social opportunities in a safe and supervised environment. Automated payment withdrawals occur every two weeks. A $10 late fee will be charged for late payments. If Minnewaska Area Schools is closed due to inclement weather or emergencies, School-Age Child Care programming will not be offered. If school starts two hours late, the Before School Program will also open two hours late at 8:30 a.m. If school closes early due to weather or emergencies, the After School Program will not be offered. For School-Age Child Care questions outside of regular school hours, families may contact the program at 320-345-8268. Summer Child Care During the summer months, Laker Legends offers full-day care featuring structured and unstructured play, recreation, STEAM activities, enrichment opportunities, field trips, arts and crafts, gym time, outdoor activities, and social-emotional learning experiences. Activities are designed to fit a variety of ages, interests, and ability levels while creating a fun and memorable summer experience. Our dedicated and professional staff create an environment that promotes positive relationships, responsibility, creativity, and confidence. Laker Legends follows all Minnewaska Area Schools policies and encourages students to demonstrate Laker Pride by being respectful, responsible, and safe. Little Lakers Preschool provides children with a strong foundation for kindergarten through a balanced, play-based learning experience that supports the whole child. Our program is designed to foster social, emotional, physical, and early academic development in a nurturing and inclusive environment. Aligned with the Minnesota Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIPS) and local kindergarten standards, our curriculum integrates literacy, math, STEM, social-emotional learning, and creative expression. Children engage in a variety of hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities including art, music, sensory play, and both fine and gross motor skill development. Our licensed teachers closely monitor each child’s growth and development, providing individualized support to meet diverse learning needs. Classrooms are inclusive and supported by early childhood special education professionals and related service providers when appropriate. Little Lakers Preschool offers flexible scheduling options, including half-day and full-day programming, 2-, 3-, or 5-day formats, running from September through May. Families can expect a structured yet engaging environment where children learn routines, build relationships, and develop confidence as learners. Minnewaska Community Education Youth Enrichment programs provide engaging, hands-on learning opportunities for students in grades K–12 to explore new interests and build valuable life skills outside of the school day. These programs focus on creativity, exploration, and personal growth through activities such as STEM, arts, cooking, academic support, leadership development, and other skill-based classes. Students are encouraged to think critically, try new things, and develop confidence in a supportive and inclusive environment. Our enrichment offerings are designed to extend learning beyond the classroom while sparking curiosity and fostering a love of lifelong learning. Whether students are discovering a new passion or building on an existing interest, these experiences help them grow academically, socially, and personally.

Minnewaska Community Education Youth Recreation programs offer fun, active, and engaging opportunities for students in grades K–12 to stay involved, build friendships, and enjoy a variety of recreational experiences. These programs focus on participation, teamwork, and enjoyment through activities such as sports, games, fitness, open gym, camps, and other recreational offerings. Designed for all skill levels, youth recreation provides a welcoming environment where students can be active, try new activities, and connect with their peers. Our goal is to promote healthy lifestyles, positive social interaction, and a sense of belonging while creating enjoyable experiences outside of the school day. Youth Recreation helps students build confidence, stay active, and have fun in a safe and supportive environment.
