5th & 6th Grade Tackle FootballYouth Recreation5th and 6th Grade Tackle Football Youth tackle football program for students entering 5th & 6th grade for the 2026-2027 school year. Basic football techniques, position techniques, team plays, and SAFETY will be the key elements taught in this program. This is a padded, full-contact activity. The Minnewaska Football Association will provide helmets, pads, pants, jerseys, and mouth guards. Cleats (rubber soles only)/shoes, athletic cup, etc., will be the player's responsibility. Approximately six games are to be played within the Willmar football league. Tentative games are on Thursday nights @ 7:00 p.m. Game schedule is TBD. Possible other scrimmages throughout the season. USA Football-certified coaching staff. AcquaticsOur Aquatics programs offer opportunities for participants of all ages to build confidence, develop swimming skills, and stay active in the water. From beginner swim lessons to advanced skill development, each program is designed to promote water safety, personal growth, and lifelong fitness. Led by trained and certified instructors, our classes focus on proper technique, endurance, and safety while creating a positive and encouraging learning environment. Participants will progress at their own pace through structured lessons that emphasize skill development, confidence in the water, and safe practices. Aquatics offerings may include youth swim lessons, lifeguard training, water fitness, open swim opportunities, and specialty classes. Before and After School Age Child CareSchool Aged Child CareSchool Year Child Care Programming Laker Legends Before School Program (BSP) and After School Program (ASP) are designed to provide a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment where children can be cared for before and after school and on non-school days throughout the school year. Programs are available for children enrolled in all-day preschool through 6th grade who attend Minnewaska Area Schools. Before School Program (BSP) Monday–Friday | 6:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Cost: $5.50 per day After School Program (ASP) Monday–Friday | 2:45 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Cost: $8.00 per day School Age Child Care 2025-26 Parent Handbook Bussing to the After School Program is provided for students in grades 4–6. Attendance options include full-time, part-time, or drop-in care; however, all children must be registered online prior to attending. Parents/guardians are responsible for making schedule changes through the registration system. Laker Legends also offers Non-School Day Child Care during select school-year non-school days. Programming includes games, crafts, enrichment activities, gym time, outdoor play, and social opportunities in a safe and supervised environment. Automated payment withdrawals occur every two weeks. A $10 late fee will be charged for late payments. If Minnewaska Area Schools is closed due to inclement weather or emergencies, School-Age Child Care programming will not be offered. If school starts two hours late, the Before School Program will also open two hours late at 8:30 a.m. If school closes early due to weather or emergencies, the After School Program will not be offered. For School-Age Child Care questions outside of regular school hours, families may contact the program at 320-345-8268. Please note this number accepts phone calls only and does not receive text messages. Programs are available for children in all day preschool through 6th grade that attend Minnewaska Area Schools. Programming includes games, crafts, enrichment activities, gym time, outdoor play, and social interaction in a safe and supervised environment. Summer Child Care During the summer months, Laker Legends offers full-day care featuring structured and unstructured play, recreation, STEAM activities, enrichment opportunities, field trips, arts and crafts, gym time, outdoor activities, and social-emotional learning experiences. Activities are designed to fit a variety of ages, interests, and ability levels while creating a fun and memorable summer experience. Our dedicated and professional staff create an environment that promotes positive relationships, responsibility, creativity, and confidence. Laker Legends follows all Minnewaska Area Schools policies and encourages students to demonstrate Laker Pride by being respectful, responsible, and safe. Beginning BandYouth EnrichmentBeginning Band “Kick-Start” Lessons! Incoming 5th grade (or brand new) band students are invited to be part of a “kick-off” week before school starts to get a jump start on their instruments. We directors highly recommend students attend if possible, as it really helps students get started successfully! Students will learn the basics of their instrument and leave with resources to get started playing. Cost is $20. We hope ALL incoming band students can attend! Driver's Education - In-Person, Classroom Instruction (30 Hours)Youth EnrichmentOffered through MAS Community Education in partnership with Roadworthy Driver’s Education For teens ready to begin their journey toward earning a driver’s license, the State of Minnesota requires a minimum of 30 hours of classroom instruction before taking the written permit exam. While online options are available, we know that online learning isn’t the right fit for every student. That’s why we’re excited to bring an in-person classroom experience to Minnewaska, with a knowledgeable Roadworthy instructor leading every session. Students will benefit from real-time conversation, hands-on learning, and a structured environment built for success. Class Dates & Times:August 3 - 7 and August 10 - 14 1:30–4:30 PM (Monday–Friday) Location: Minnewaska Area High School – Classroom A115 Cost: $156.00 Minimum: 10 students Maximum: 30 students In addition to classroom instruction, Minnesota also requires 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel training with a licensed instructor before a student may take their road test. This extended season includes multiple performance opportunities and the chance to compete against other schools’ dance teams.
